Okay, anybody who is reading this forum, do you have any ideas for websites that might be frequented by people who are interested in VtV? I'm looking in particular for space game websites, but really anything will do. I advertise right now through google adwords but that covers a lot of websites. I'm thinking somebody here might have some ideas of where it would be worth it to spend some $$$ to get more players! I'm not trying to trick anybody into liking this game, but it does seem like when people get into it, they enjoy it.

Other than that, 1.1.1 is out and the main things on the menu this week are:

- Linux version
- Improved compatability
- More manual pages

The manual is getting to be a lot better. Thanks to bytten for the review, if you didn't read it you can read it here:

http://www.bytten.com/gamereview.php?id=234

They gave it a 72% but still felt compelled by it, that's good enough for me!

Also fixed!

- Score calculation

System-wide hiscores were being calculated wrong. They are being calculated better now, though I think right now they include private as well as public games. At any rate, this is something that will be continually refined.

Well, there are websites that attract millions of people to them-here are some.

www.runescape.com
it is the WORST rpg game...but it attracts some serious crowds, all RPG guys and gals, so it's a good spot to advertise

YouTube
again, millions of people-one of them is bound to want to play.

http://visual-utopia.com/
A browser based strategy game-I play it and I found a different space adventure, that I liked. It has a couple hundred people among its ranks, possibly on the brink of a thousand.

http://www.starsonata.com/
This is a two dimensional space adventure. You can get to lvl 20 without pay, then you pay a monthly fee-I'm sure someone would prefer a one pay deal-and three dimensions. This site drws thousands.

www.addictinggames.com
This site draws well over one million people every day. It isn't really a all sci-fi community, but it gets enough people so that the odds are one of them will play.

www.itch.com
Thousands of players, all browser based mmorpg egg-heads. It is a strategy turn based sorta game, but thare aren't any banners yet, I don't think, so it may not be possible-or you will be the only banner up there!

That's it. All the sites I can think of. Hope you can attract some players.

Excellent, thanks! Today was a really busy day, new job, but I'm going to tweak my ads and have a look at them. I already am advertising a fair bit on visual-utopia, it's been quite good actually for drawing players. I see star sonata ads all the time on sites I normally wanna advertise on!

Again, thanks!

Whew! Yeah. I got a brand new job (it's awesome) but I have a big project due right off the bat, so I've been working really hard at that. Plus, we had a pancake cookoff with my roommates last night. Super fun, we had like 13 judges who had to pick their fave pancake between my girlfriend Michelle and my roommate Kevin (http://kevin.saff.net). But! Today I'm going to check that installer, see if it's being stupid. Also I'm gonna try and track down some intel 950G hardware, though that isn't related to your problems.

Cheers!

Okay, I hope you find the problem! I also hope you don't find anything else...or, er, you do find everything else...well, I hope you find the solution to all the problems (if there are a lot) and I hope you dont discover new, hard to fix ones...but I do, so you can fix them- so how about those pancakes? BTW, what will the 950G hardware do? Make the game go a smidgen faster? You know, we may have to continue this conversation in a different forum, lol.

No, this forum is fine to continue this conversation! Intel 950G is just a graphics chip (sort of like your NVIDIA) but which Venture the Void won't run on at all, unfortunately.

Does the installer still not work for you? If not, please email me at psysal@venturethevoid.com (or psysal@gmail.com) and we'll figure it out. I Just tested the installer here and it seems to work fine, I haven't heard of any problems with it from anyone else. I'm going to do some more tests meanwhile.

lol, a new bug to fix ;)

Or some dude named frank got an email from me.

Just edited this, cuz I saw the advertisement for this game on the web, and wanted to comment. It is cool, sorta, but you cant tell what it is. Add more ships fighting, or make it a MOVING ad, heck, put the movie that you see when you come to the homepage as the ad. The current one is a tad dull. No offense. Just some suggestions. =)\

What about TIGSource?

I've found some pretty awesome indie games there. I sent an email about VtV to Derek Yu (one of the editors) but didn't receive a response -- maybe try one or more of the others?
